Lip Plate Piercing Jewelry

A surface piercing [mouth]. The modification is obtained by stretching the lip piercing. Lip plate piercing is also known as a lip plug or lip disc [usually circular and made from clay or wood].

Lip plate jewelery involves a form of body modification. Till today still captured in Africa and South America. However, the lip plates are worn traditionally for practice as a body modification form - as religious and cultural reason.

How is the piercing done?
At the start, a hole is made in the lip with a wooden stick. Gradually, the stretching continues and the disc of the clay or wood gets bigger. Basically, the two lower front teeth are pulled out to aid the entire procedure.

How to wear a lip plate?
Before wearing a lip plate, the lip must be pierced because a lip plate requires a stretch to the hole. A lip plate can be made from a clay, wood or metal.

They are pierced differently because they lip piercing aren't the same - upper, lower or emit and underline them. They can be a decorative body jewelry from small sizes to huge sizes.

Does the lip plate have a size?
Yes, they have various sizes. They range from a small size up to a dinner plate.

Wear can the lip plate be worn?
- Upper lip, lower lip and even both

This form of body piercing is found very rare in the States. In South America, lip plates are made from light wood. Most of the tribes in Brazil, Sudan and West Africa, wear stretched lip ornaments that are plug or rod - shaped rather than plate - shape.
